So you want to provide a generic concrete implementation for IStorageManager?  
I think Marios would very likely support this, although I can see it could be 
quite easy for someone to blow their foot off with it :)

You should join the libspatialindex list and we'll continue the discussion 
there.  Run the proposal by Marios on that list in case he sees any issues with 
it or a simpler way to get what you want without any work.  I would support you 
getting svn commit access to libspatialindex to develop and maintain this.
