-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hmm. looks like apple is entering the handset market....
http://www.apple.com/iphone/ The size and design idea seems similar to that of the Neo1973. (neo screen has twice as much detail (480 x 640) vs. (320 x 480), but is physically smaller 2.5") touch is primary input method for both, with the iphone supporting "multitouch" (like those touchstream keyboards that were around a few years ago ?), and a stylus for the neo (?). Both have quad band GSM. The Neo has a mini or micro? usb port (host/device configurable), the iPhone has an ipod dock (device). iPhone comes with 4-8 gig internal memory -no word on ram or other flash and has no slots for expanded memory, neo supports micro-sd cards and has 64MB flash, 128 RAM. Neo has GPS/AGPS, iphone doesn't. iphones sold in the US will be locked to Cingular (1 SIM assumed) and you will have to get a 2 yr contract. neo is unlocked. iphone has EDGE, neo has 2.5G (GPRS?). iphone has 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0, the neo doesn't, yet. The iPhone has accelerometers and a 2 MP camera, the neo doesn't. It isn't clear whether the embedded version of Darwin/OSX that runs the iphone will be made open source, as apple only provides open source ports of darwin for x86 and ppc. http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/ That said, the Neo1973 and OpenMoko are still at the top of my list for many reasons; GPS, Open Embedded Build system, Linux, unlocked, price, etc. If the UI of OpenMoko and the application suite can equal or rival that of the iPhone, i bet lots of people will want to have the neo in their lineup, even without 802.11b/g aand bluetooth. http://www.apple.com/iphone/ Technical Specifications Screen size 3.5 inches "Widescreen" Screen resolution 320 by 480 at 160 ppi Input method Multi-touch Operating system OS X Storage 4GB or 8GB GSM Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900) Wireless data Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0 Camera 2.0 megapixels Battery Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing Up to 16 hours Audio playback Dimensions 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm Weight 4.8 ounces / 135 grams Apparently uses the "ipod connector" for connection to a computer.
