So the obvious solution are screen protectors. I'm not very
used to them, but I do think, they might be a good idea.

No.
It's normal that you try to cut it to the exact right size, and then
have a horrible task both replacing and removing it.
Taking the case apart may well be the easier and possibly faster way.
