3: How long does the device run on a battery?

On an 850mAh nokia battery... maybe 3 hours mostly idle (not sure, I
came back to find it dead.) Haven't timed it with the 1200mAh "real"
battery, but basically, "power management isn't really there yet."

Is it hard to do it? Would using NO_HZ in the kernel help?

See the Neo1973 Power Managment page in the wiki.

Basically - AIUI - there need to be custom drivers to vary the voltage and frequency of the CPU, to enable slow-mode, and to turn on and off various chip modules.

Then, the hard part of getting it to resume from 'sleep' - which is the CPU completely off, and suspended to RAM in under a second or so.

NO_HZ at this stage would do little. The CPU uses almost the same power when running flat out as when idle, but not in idle-mode.
