I was a bit into development on the openwrt platform some time ago and 
used the busybox httpd plus haserl [1] for CGI scripts written in shell 
script, mixed with Dojo core for Ajax. Worked like a champ and was 
pretty fast too. Not that I would recommend it for a GUI on a phone 
though.
