SCOPE
-------------
The current special issue of AIM is looking for research or R&D
work in the fields of summarization and information extraction
from medical documents in various formats, such as medical
records (structured documents), web medical pages (semi-
structured documents), or medical news and articles (unstructured
documents).
Indicative but not restrictive topics are:
-named entity recognition,
-event/topic detection,
-multi-document information extraction,
-multi-lingual information extraction,
-multimedia information extraction,
-domain adaptive information extraction,
-multidocument summarization,
-multi-lingual summarization,
-multimedia summarization,
-evolving summarization,
-domain adaptive summarization,
-text mining.
SCHEDULE

Submission of full papers 15 December 2002
Notification of acceptance 28 February 2003
Submission of final papers 31 May 2003
Delivery to AIM 30 June 2003
The Journal "Artificial Intelligence in Medicine", will publish the
special issue on "Information Extraction and Summarization from
Medical Documents", during the year 2003.
REVIEWING PROCESS
------------------------
Papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers apart from the
guest editors and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal. Acceptance
will be based on originality, significance of findings, and
relevance to the subject of the special issue. Please note that the
usual reviewing procedures and editorial standards to the Journal
of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine will apply to the Special
Issue manuscripts.
PAPER LENGTH
-------------------
A manuscript should no exceed the limit of 10,000 words or 20
pages including tables, figures and the list of references.
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the journal
"submission guidelines" (see http://authors.elsevier.com/).
