Dear Opencast Community,

As we announced previously [1], the Opencast board, product owners and
several subject matter experts met last month to discuss strategies for
ensuring the continuing growth and long-term sustainability of the Opencast
Community and Matterhorn project. It was determined that the first critical
step was to establish a new governance model, one that supports
community-driven project, and seeks active participation from committers,
contributors and adopting institutions.

Attached is the proposed Opencast Governance Approach, which outlines the
vision and proposed governance model for the community and the Matterhorn
project. We invite everyone to review and comment on this proposal over the
next two weeks. The community comment period will close on Monday, June 6. After
comments have been received, we expect to adapt accordingly and finalize
the governance approach and begin transitioning toward this model.

Implementation of this approach will be undertaken by current leadership
over the next several months, and we look forward to sharing progress on
this. We expect several "practice documents" to be developed that further
clarify the procedures and practices around governance and project
management. While we may transition rather quickly in some areas,
specifically those related to project governance, other areas such as
voting in new board members, are targeted for implementation in the Fall.

We look forward to your feedback on this proposal, and invite you to raise
any questions, concerns and recommendations through the
[email protected] mailing list. We are excited about the future
of Opencast and the Matterhorn project, and hope that for many of you, this
new model will inspire engagement and confidence in our future as a
community.

Warm Regards,

Mara Hancock
