Hi Lovemore,

I have no own experience with this camera, but I was on the Diverse Conference, where Roy Pea from Stanford reported about this device and his research with panoramic video over the last years. As one of your colleagues was there too, I guess that she told you about the device?

I guess that the device is very interesting and I would like to have one too. But you probably will have to keep some things in mind. If you use the camera image as it is, it will probably look quite strange. I made a quick google image search to give you an impression [1]. So you will need video filters to scale the image in the right way. And because of this technique HD will not give you so much detail as you might expect.

Nevertheless it is a great idea, and Roy Pea and his team developed some tools [2] that can probably make this panoramic video very usefull, especially if you want to record school teaching to help the teachers improve their skills. They made a product of their analysis software that they sell bundled with the camera [3]. The basic idea behind their software is (as far as I understood it), that only some reviewers see the panoramic video and they create their views on what's happening in the room that they will annotate with comments. Their view is only a small cutout of the large panoramic video that can be encoded to a video with more common dimensions.

I guess it would be a nice idea to add some support for this camera to Matterhorn too. We could for example introduce a new flavor panoramic/source so that this video is treated different from the regular videos.

Hi guys
Kogeto have made a small 360 degree camera for use in a classroom and its rather affordable at $1399! It's equipped with an HD camera for recording finer details like the writing on the board. they actually designed it with than in mind. http://www.kogeto.com/lucy.php has the outline. Youtube has a video of it being spoken of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpkvYucwUHQ Has anyone in the community used this or thought of utilizing its wide angle coverage?
