Where are you setting this other username and password?  Matterhorn does
not sync with the system users.

This sounds like a configuration issue.  Make sure that the
org.opencastproject.server.url variable is set correctly.  This should
either be localhost if Matterhorn is running on your local machine, or
the public IP of the server if Matterhorn is not running on your local
machine.

It's possible to run a CA and a core on the same machine, but really
only in testing.  A single admin server in theory can support any number
of agents, hardware permitting.  Realistically most institutions have
distributed deployments.  The system should work more or less out of the
box.  It might not have great text recognition, and it might only have a
single user (admin), but it should work.  Those instructions should help
you setup more complex things.
