I have found an interesting project that IMHO deserves some support by
other communities like ours. Although Germany focussed (if I understood
correctly he limits the crawler to German pages?).
There is a German developer running an open source search engine with
his own search index (2.1 billion pages indexed):

It respects privacy (no storing of IP addresses, no cookies, https only).
And the source code is open:

He runs it from private budgets and collects really minimal amounts per month:

So I think we should at least spread the word that DeuSu.de exists.
