Usually this is a combination of higher clock rates and an extension of the sector addressing scheme. Which means that it is usually possible to use big cards on a controller that was originally for small cards only. It is only slower than the card would support. > I used a break-out board to make it easier to insert and remove the card: > > https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2742920#post2742920 The Tolino 3/Kobo Clara has a slightly different SD reader cage where it is not difficult. At least so far :) I do not know how quickly it wears out. > >> There is also an RS232 (3.3V level) interface for the console and I have >> soldered a cable with a connector to it so that I can plug it on demand >> and connect to an adapter for a FTDI cable. > > I didn't think to try that. Why not? AFAIK mainline kernels support the i.MX5 as well. Bigger work may be to make the u-boot useable... The ones we have found are hacked in a way that you can only load the original images without pain... If you want to join our initiative I think there are enough similarities to add another set of device tree files...
