Hi Kathryn, The use agreements of community gardens on privately owned lands
cover the spectrum. There are probably as many types of agreements as there are
gardens, and there are a lot. Most include some requirement for liability
insurence or some form of waiver protecting the owner. The city of Victoria B.C
has a formal use agreement for commuinity gardens on privately owned land as
does Prince George. In the case of Prince George the land owner gets a
reduction on taxes while a garden is being cultivated. The City of New York has
council documents which address this usage. Google 'Green Thumb' on their web
site. Also there are many faith communities here in Winnipegand in North
America which have gardens and use agreements. I am surprised you ask this
question because I seem to remember that you pushed for the exclusion of all
but community gardens on city owned land a couple of years ago when the city
had consultations on community gardens. Good to see that you have come around
to inclusivity.

Hi Community Gardeners!

I am looking for examples of land use agreements between a private owner and
a community garden group. Also examples of similar agreements made between
municipal governments and garden groups and the stories behind them would be
great too.

Thanks for your help, eh?!
