Here's where it stands with three Bronx Gardens. And trust me, we're doing everything we can - It's just very, very hard.

If you came to the Critical Mass ride last May to the Bronx, you saw them. They were in bloom, filled with life both green and two-legged. Those 3 gardens have been told that the 29th of Nov. is the day that the city gives them over to the developer. So we will celebrate these gardens with live music, free food, and art work. If we have prevented the transfer by then, all the more reason to come!!! And if not, then we will make sure that the gardens are remembered and appreciated. They are all between Courtlandt and Park Avenues, E. 158th-159th Streets. Sunshine Garden, Latinos Unidos, and Family Group. Come between noon and 6 p.m. Call Ayre or Aresh to see what else you can do to help: 718-585-2109, or 917-518-9987. (We need lots of participation as the time is running short. We do have some legal irons in the fire. Also need help with media and other stuff.) To get there: take the 4 or D train to Yankee Stadium (161st St) and then the #6 bus (or walk) along 161st to the east till you get to Park Ave. Turn right (downtown) to 159th. or take the 2 or 5 train to 149th St/3rd Ave (NOT 149th/Grand Concourse). Then take the #41 (Melrose Ave) bus up to 158th, or walk up Melrose. Then turn left (west) to Courtlandt, one block. SEE YOU THERE! The South Bronx gardens are nearing the end of their story. The saga of New York City's community gardens is being played out up there, where they remain under threat. We can actually force HPD to protect these gardens, or offer suitable alternate sites, but we need a big presence. Come and make noise, dance, and eat and mingle with the gardeners, kids and local people, and with MORE GARDENS. Thanks!
