Butterflies are great .. We had a butterfly expert talk to our Horticultural Society. Apparently they (the butterflies) cruise about 20 meters above looking for spots of colour so you should have about 10 plants grouped together so they can see them. You should get a butterfly book for your area. This will tell you what plants the catepillars feed on. If you want to attract a specific species plant the catepillar food. If you just want to attract stray adults anything in the carrot family will do. They like the broad platform that the flowers form (umbels) to land on and feed. Mourning cloak butterflies love Angelica, where I work we have an out door garden on the 5th floor of a building downtown and we get tons of butterflies looking for a place to lay their eggs. Be prepared to suffer plant damage though. Karen
