Hi All, Our garden had watering woes for many years. We struggled to find a way to import water to our garden. Last year while struggling again, one of our gardeners said, I grew up in the country and we always had a big garden and we never imported water. Then others started saying the same thing and we decided to be sustainable by 1) increasing the water holding capacity of the soil through composting and 2) decreasing evapo-transpiration by mulching 3) decreasing competition for available water by keeping the weeds down 3) not tilling any soil after June. Last year we had a drought. The garden did not look too good. But this is what gardens look like when there is a drought. Many gardeners, like we used to be, are convinced that without an external source of water you just cannot garden. But you can. Your garden will just look like a real honest garden. If it doesn't look too good this year, you can always hope for next. Like gardeners have done for centuries. Having said that though, medieval gardens had their own wells. Good luck with watering woes. Karen
