Thanks Kate, I looked briefly at the proposed legislation and did not see where
this can effect US legislation, except that anything (natural products)
imported into Canada must be able to state exactly what it is on the label.
This is, I understand, an effort to protect consumers from adulterated product.
Am I missing something? There is No North American Union that would impress
thse laws on Americans in their own country. No doubt there are already lots of
regulations under the AFDA. This goes back to Steve Hixton and the request for
people to send money to an organization which I could find no record of on the
internet and no mention of the seed cleaners who's jobs are at risk from
Monsanto. Does anyone want to shed some light on this. This post was on
Sunday. It puzzled me. Cheers.... Karen

As a Scandinavian, I tend to be more trustful of government, at least having
had the experience of living in a society where consumers and workers are
protected from corporations exploiting them to the fullest. Not that I would
trust the US govt to do the same, but I do tend to have a more favorable
opinion of the Canadian govt.

Y'all know what's funny: I did not know that my country was a "socialist"
country, as we proudly called ourselves capitalists. In the old country, I was
a small business owner, and I made profit, got along with my workers. And
worked 7 days a week at it.

Kate, I would agree with you on the Canadian govt., but to a limit. I would
point out an egregious situation with the Athabasca tar sands region. The
government has allowed development in that region that has led to dire
environmental, social, and human health consequences. Given the breadth and
abundance of Canada's exploitable resources I have an idea that the tar
sands are not the lone problem.

Peace
jeff
