Hello All, After asking for help on a presentation to a Housing Advocacy
Group, I received lots of solid documentation which will help me to sell the
garden as a vital component in healthy urban environments. What a great
resource this list serve is! So to Joanne from the Trust for Public Land,
Andrea from GreenFlorida, Katie from Operation Green Plant, Miriam from
Baltimore, and Amanda from Troront community Housing, thank you for the
support. and thanks for the work you are all doing to support those who support
Community Gardening. I hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Doreen, my heart goes out to you. You are angry. And yes, it is a righteous
anger. I fully understand it. I was like that myself, for years. It scares
people. and it is hard on you. I know you are afraid of losing the garden. But
your fear makes you less able to act as an advocate who will be accepted by the
'authorities'. I heard on the news the other day that when people are fearful
they give off a pheromone of fear, that is unconsciously picked up by others
who become fearful. When they become fearful they want to shoot the messenger.
Lord knows this city is littered with dead messengers. You are too valuable to
end up that way. You need to learn some new dance steps. I am just saying this
because I have been through it. I have even been hit by some of 'shoot the
messenger' bullets. But in part, due to the support I have received from this
list serve, I am still here. So is the Sherbrook Street Community Garden. And
even if the garden disappears, which is highly likely, I will continue to lobby
on behalf of the value of Community Gardens. Which I am getting better at all
the time. I am learning alot of personal lessons. Thank you all for sharing, in
the true Community Garden way.
