I used http://site-perf.com/ to check the performance of my site. When loading the images, the queues range from 1.5s to 8.5s towards the end.
The images are mostly part of a theme, but there is also some user pictures. I would say about 80% is theme, and 20% is user images. The images range from 50kb to less then 1kb. The site is hosted on a VPS server.
