Hi all, If you follow TennisMetro <http://tennismetro.com> or Curbly<http://curbly.com>(two of my CE sites), you've noticed I recently added Facebook Connect <http://developers.facebook.com/connect.php> support for both. This lets users sign in using their Facebook profiles, and also publishes stories to their news feeds when they perform certain actions on the CE site (like posting a blog, or commenting). The idea here is to make these sites more viral, and make it easier for people to join. If you have a Facebook account, feel free to try it out!
The plugin I've developed is called CommunityEngineFacebooker, and it just plugs into CE with a few migrations and (<10) lines of integration code. I'm still polishing it up, but I plan to make it available to the community as a *commercial *offering (meaning I'd charge a per-site license fee for using it), if there's any interest out there. Why charge for it? Well, it represents a fair bit of work on my part, and I don't want to make it part of CE's core. At the same time, I'm looking for ways to monetize CE to support continued development, and charging for added-value plugins like CE_Facebooker, while keeping the core open source, seems like a good model. Show of hands; anyone in the CE community interested in this kind of thing? It basically would allow you to add Facebook Connect support to your CE site instantly. Thoughts? Feedback?
