I participated in Ubuntu Open Week [1] a few weeks ago. It's just an organized IRC discussion, and it was a great success. The schedule and rules were very helpful for presenters as well as viewers and kept the discussions on track and on time.
Perhaps an IRC channel on freenode would work... or maybe Campfire from 37signals would fill the need. Thanks.
