Hello All, I thought that this mailing list might be a good place to ask this question. Can someone help me translate this from Arabic into English? It's a grammatical analysis of verse (4:98) of the Quran.
متعلق بحال محذوفة لأن (من) حرف جر بياني أو متعلق بصفة لأن (المستضعفين) غير معرفة فىها (أل) لانها اسم جنس Please see this link for more information ( http://kaisdukes.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/pp-attachment-in-traditional-arabic-grammar/). The reason that this is important, is that I have been trying for some time to understand the rules used in Salih’s al-i’rāb al-mufassal, regarding the use of a hidden Hal or Sifa or preposition phrase attachment. My understanding of the above analysis is the following: *This could be connected to a Hal, because "min" is a preposition (Harf jar) or, this could be connected to an adjective because the word is not definite, but contains the definite marker (-al)*. Does this sound like a reasonable translation? Am I missing something here? The bigger problem I am trying to solve is to determine the grammatical rule that is used in al-i’rāb al-mufassal to decide between Hal and Sifa for preposition phrase attachment (متعلق). NOTE: You can find a more detailed discussion about this issue at this web page: http://kaisdukes.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/pp-attachment-in-traditional-arabic-grammar/ Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help with this translation of the above line of grammatical analysis, OR anyone who can help shed some light on the above question. You may also still find the above web link useful anyway and an interesting read ! Kind Regards, -- Kais
