1) Not even near terminal. I am a believer in raising machines from
the dead (or near-dead).
2) Not even near another monitor? Hard drive/hard-drive fan? Have
you tried another room/electrical supply circuit in your home (or elsewhere)?
3) Any high-pitched sounds associated with the flicker? During the non-flicker?
4) By pulse, do you mean that the whole monitor goes blank - or does
it 'blur' or 'streak'?
5) Have you tried facing the monitor toward the east? Don't laugh,
this is in some monitor documentation I saw once ... *seriously*!
6) Is there any relationship to disk access (or printing, modeming,
etc.) to the flickering?
7) Is it worse during the first few minutes of operation? After it
has been on for a little while?
8) Any vibration interference?
9) Properly grounded electrical supply?
Apart for the heading east thing or some sort of interference, you're
probably going to have to open it up :-( Do the wire-jiggle test and
see what is loose. It could be as simple as a loose connector, but if
the timing is consistent, then you probably have a capacitor/inductor
discharging at regular intervals. That could be a pain to track down.
There are folks out there who would do this type of work for a
nominal fee ... like those of us currently out of work and spending
waaay too much time on the list ... -d
PS: I open boxes with nary a thought, but please be very careful
opening the machine. It could really give you a jolt, even unplugged!
