Yo compacters everywhere,

"The Compacts are all around 100W or so IIRC, but I have no idea about
real-world figures. The figures I (and most others) are most familiar with
are the rated power consumption figures, which probably don't mean a whole
lot."
Newer's GURU rates all of the monochrome compacts at 75 watts. This is the figure I
use for power budgeting and it works well. Using a 150 watt (continuous) inverter
powered from one of my boat's massive gell cell batteries, I am able to run two
compacts quite steadily all day long. When the location demands, I remove and bring
along one of those batteries and the inverter to run my Macs at often powerless
saturday markets. Yes, this is cutting the watts close. I can run the inverter at 230
watts for up to 15 minutes. With the two compacts running, I give my PowerBook and
Ricochet wireless modem the occassional shot of refreshment throughout the day. It
works for me all day long. I keep the inverter in the shade. On a particularly hot
day, I created a little boat of a bed for the inverter and stuck it inside my ice
chest along with my Dr. Pepper. 75 watts seems to be a power consumption figure for
our compacts that is real. It may surge above this at startup but that isn't lik!
ely to pop fuses or circuit breakers. The two compacts running on my inverter do not
suffer any screen distortion when a drive starts up. When one is running and I start
the second, the first does not suffer distortion. For you people with meters at hand,
it ought to be a real simple check-ya know: current? voltage? Or do a balanced bridge
circuit with a 75 watt light bulb.
