I wonder what Microsoft means by low-cost licenses. Right now, Windows
3.1 sells for about $10-$20 on ebay ($20 for a shrinkwrapped
package). This still needs DOS, which sells $1.25 to $18. So, one could
do the whole thing starting with $12 plus shipping. I wonder if the
"low-cost licenses" would beat that?
Alex
p.s. Talking of licenses, did you guys hear about a new case involving
Netscape? A court ruled that a license agreement merely posted on a web
site, but which did not display when downloading and which one did not
click on any agree button for (there was just a link: "To see the license,
click here" or somethng like that) is not legally binding? This suggests
to me that for those Apple downloads which do not actually make you click
on an agree button or show you a license, the license is not legally
binding. Of course, copyright law is still binding, and so one can't make
more than one backup copy over and beyond what one has downloaded, etc.,
so this doesn't help get old versions.
