Can you say ThunderScan? Got its power from the floppy port, and used the 
ImageWriter II printer mechanism to scan instead of print. Not a very 
practical scanner, but it was the only option in the early days. Our Mac 
club had one we loaned out. The ThunderScan always came back, but the 
MacRecorder got lost and was sorely missed.
