Hello list,
I have been lurking on this list on and off for a while picking up all
kinds of useful tips. I just fixed up a Compact Mac from the parts of
various machines. I installed an SE/30 motherboard into a nice clean, hardly
used SE* along with a 500 MB hard drive and 32MB RAM. I am running both
System 7.5.3 and 6.08(sacrificing RAM for that zippy System 6 goodness when
possible).
My issue is that when the hard drive accesses heavily, the CRT flickers
in an annoying way. I am wondering if I screwed up something when I did all
of the work. The screen is really in good shape, especially compered to the
SE/30's old screen. The hard drive is a full height 3.5 inch. Is the full
height drive too close to the CRT? Is the flicker a power problem or an EM
interference issue? Would putting in a half-height drive fix the problem?
Would a bit of shielding help...and if so, what exactly. Has anybody else
had this type of problem?
Thanks for any help.

* The SE was a gift from the original owner. She had used it in College for
what looks like 2 or 3 research papers. The sales reciept was for 9/91 and
the last file was written to the drive on 11/91. Two months of service
before I got it last year!!!!!!
