Many thanks to all those who volunteered approach routes to resuscitate my SE30. The story so far:
1. the video seems to have calmed down, and appears fairly stable. I'll ask about improvements to that later, when I've got it to start up. 2. What I mostly need now is instructions for getting out the motherboard, hard disk and various other parts. I put in RAM on two occasions, and renewed the hard disk once, but that was years ago. I had forgotten how crammed the little blighters are. Can someone send me clear instructions about how to dismantle (and re-assemble) the thing without blowing my ears off? (It was quite interesting to find the 'cracker' I made ten years or so ago, using a hinge with a pair of handles welded on. How did I remember where I had put it?) 3. Using the 7.0.1 install disk, it did actually start up twice. However, as I had no viable hard disk to work with, I couldn't get beyond the first window describing the installation procedure. This shows, though, that the little darling WILL come to life. Unfortunately I can't get her to repeat the trick: Switch on, up comes the ? disk. Put 7.0.1 install disk in and the Happy Mac comes up for three seconds. Dull drive noise and the disk is ejected. 4. This morning (another incredibly beautiful morning here in Autumnal Australia... we're in a bit of a drought which makes the weather just... well, perfect. And I'm on leave for a week!) I will get a floppy drive cleaning thingo, and give her a good cleanout. Your incredible techy-talk is turning me on, people! Where do I find someone here to guide me?
