Yo compacters everywhere, Ian Orchard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asks:
>A cobber has a dead (mother board) Colour Classic. Can it be upgraded >with the motherboard of a Quadra 605, since LEM notes that it can >have a 575 MBb installed but also that a 575 is "essentially" a Q605? While te 575 MoBo is certainly the "higher power" way to go, it involves a bit of surgery on your part as the website you visited outlines. If you wish to put your CC back into service (Yes!), perk it up quite a bit (Yes!), but don't have the skills or want to do the surgery (we understand), just slip a 520 or 550 motherboard into your CC. It will work without any issue whatsoever, speed up everything nicely, and not cost much as these 520 and 550 MoBos are quite cheap. These two boards are 32 bit v 16 bit boards, 25MHz or 33 MHz respectively, and accept a 32 MB RAM SIMM for 36 MB max RAM. With Netscape 4/Eudora lite running on whatever flavor of System 7 you like, it is a right decent CC doing your utility stuff while you use your G4 for running up high scores in DOOM! Besides, this alternative just possibly saves a good working 575 to go on being a good working 575. At the rate we are sacraficing 575 MoBos to our CCs, the 575s are going to become a rare collector's Mac rea! l soon. Bill -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
