I'm sure it has practical uses, it's a wildly different idea for how to edit your documents, you don't really have different "applications", it's just "your computer" and the documents.... pretty neat idea. I don't believe OpenDoc works in system 9, and I know it's not in X. Apple dropped it like a rock to the bottom of the ocean.
