I haven't tried any other ROMs, but just the standard SE/30, OS 7.5.5, 32 MB RAM, and MODE32. Both of 'em (a pair of SE/30s) go Simasi in the heat of the summer, for a few minutes only, but never ever any other time of year. This year I'm moving them downstairs to keep 'em cooler. Finding some new ROMs sounds appealing. However, I wonder why A/UX on a SE/30 can't go beyond 8 MB RAM. Linux (Debian 2.2.19) starts up under the penguin mounting program which initially was running my same Mac 7.5.5 system. Virtual memory must be off however. When the Penguin boots, Linux has access to all the installed RAM. I do not know what use Debian makes of the Mac ROMs, but there is no 8 MB limit and no involvement of any Mac extension such as MODE32. That is irrelevant as soon as Linux boots. A/UX must be a different beast. Richard W. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
