It should work just fine with an M100. My wife synchs her M100 to my PowerBook, I just keep a seperate profile for her M100 and my IIIc.
As for the cable, you see them on ebay from time to time. Usually between $5 and $10. I saw one for sale this weekend while I was at the mall at the Franklin Covey store for $14.95. (That was genuine Palm Equipment - thus, you can buy them right from Palm's site, although I thought they were like $20+ off of Palm's site... haven't looked in awhile.) If you bought a new one though, you would get the adapter, but the software version wouldn't run on a compact, so you'd still need to download 1.0.
