Yo compacters everywhere, When setting up a compact after a wholesale transfer of configured software, I have found the ancient Apple utility MacCheck to be of good use. In its "additional information" window, it reports the connection status of most of the alias' on the receiving drive (which is now the boot drive after a restart). The alias' are reported as to exactly what they are aliased to; or they say something like "aliased to an unknown location" or "aliased to an unmounted drive". This saves much time checking out (many) an alias the hard way.
My question here: Is there some neat little freeware or shareware utility that reports the connectedness of all of your alias'? Bye the waye: While this is a compact forum and my question certainly relates to compacts, I find the MacCheck utility works for most things including reporting alias' right on up through my beige G3. I do find it amusing when it reports the 6100 I was setting up today as having a 68020 processor. Bill -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
