I finally found the time to get everything working: I found a terminal program called Terminal 2.2. It came with full source code and most importantly, it worked on my Mac Plus.
Then I bought a serial cable that is for connecting a Mac to a Hayes modem interface. I cut away the 25pin connector and soldered in another one such the the HSKi/Clock (pin2) of the mac serial port was connected to pin 1 (HSKo) and then to pin 20 of the 25pin connector. Data transmit (pin 3) and receive(pin 5) were connected to 2 and 3 respectively of the 25-pin connector. That works fine with the Mac Plus set up in xon/xoff mode.
