Hi folks, As it turns out, I got the video working by pulling and re-seating the two plugs that run from the analog board to the CRT. This after inspecting for cracks as per Jeff's advice above. Also looked for burnt-out rectifiers as per the advice on Hamada's page (the one that's linked from the Faq). I got the hard-disk spinning by shaking as Jeff suggests. It definitely spins and gives a kind of an initialization sound on power-on. I now get it to go as far as the disk-with-question-mark point in the boot routine. But it clearly won't boot from that HD. I've tried starting with a known-good boot floppy (one from my plus) but I get the same question mark. My question now is: How do I get an SE to bypass the HD and boot from floppy? If that isn't possible, I'll have to study the section of the faq about SCSI id's so I can try to read this disk from my external enclosure plugged into the Classic that I have. Oh, and thanks to Mauricio for the offer of SE parts. As you can now see, I'm dealing with HD (and possibly floppy) problems and I believe I can get a replacement locally if it comes to that. It seems that everything else works (so far). Cheers, Phil. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
