I just thought I'd share this, as it may help someone in the future: I received an LC550 (for free, no less!) that had a hard disk security program installed (on guard, it appears) and I couldn't access the system folder without the proper username and password.
I tried using a boot disk (6.0.8) and that was too old a system for this machine. I was all set to format the hard drive and while looking for my floppy with Libo, I stumbled across Conflict Catcher 3. I installed it, and restarted like you have to do. When the system got to the CC3 init, it asked for my name and the serial number of the disk. After I entered it, it went to its extension manager window. I shut off the on guard control panel and system extension and I now have full access to the hard drive. Best of all, I don't have to reinstall system 7.5. For those that are wondering, pressing shift on this machine did not disable any extensions. I tried that several times to no avail. I just thought I'd share my workaround (een though it's been done to death, I'm sure) with y'all. If someone uses it someday, it might make up for some of the great tips I've put to use from this list.
