Interesting. As we speak I am putting more memory in my Classic II. I also
have an SE/30 board that I am transplanting to a weathered SE that I am
trying to revitalize. Looking at the board against the Classic II chassis,
the size of the board isn't the problem--it looks like it would just fit. In
fact the port holes are identical, save for the bigger far left adb port (on
the classic II it is the microphone input). Unfortunately, it slides into
the metal framework. The Rom simm on the se/30 board is too tall to even
begin to slide it into the classic II. However, the framework is inclined
upward, so it is definitely possible to get the board and the Rom simm in,
you just wouldn't be able to put the simm in once you've slid the board in
due to the metal pieces of the framework on either side. Also, a plastic air
vent filter doohickey is hogging up half the room down there, surrounding
the cooling fan set at an angle. If the white filter were removed and the
fan recessed inward slightly, I don't see why it's not possible. The only
problem would be if the white power clip from the logic board didn't
electrically match up with the SE/30's receptacle on the mobo (it appears to
match physically). That would be the only real stumbling block as far as I
could see. The mobo issue might be solved if you could bend the side
framework allowing the board to be "popped" in instead of slid in. But then
again, I haven't worked on these computers as long as others here, that's
just my observations. Course, when you see what the Takky crew have done to
the CC's, it's hard not to ask "why not?". It would be great though--the
Classics look so much "cleaner" than the SE or SE/30, sorta like the Plus.
