I always apply update 3 to System 7.1. But one problem is that it replaces TeachText with SimpleText 1.0. This version of SimpleText crashes hard on any attempt to print to an ImageWriter, and often damages the ImageWriter extension. So either stick with TeachText or get a later version of SimpleText.
