I find that odd. Not to single out Stuart but when the
question was raised I let it go thinking that there
would be a slew of answers. It was all the rage during
the 7.x.x years and almost every Mac book from that era
covers it. If you want to really get creative you can
replace the "Welcome to MacOS" or any other system
splash screen with ResEdit. It does require software
that allows you know the dimensions of the image to be
replaced. (ResEdit might supply that info, it's been a
while.) I had an SE/30 for awhile called PigMailer that
had a pig screen instead of the MacOS logo and oink
startup sounds and a pig startup screen and a pig
desktop pattern. It was a hoot.
