One way to find out is to test HD with the Disk Spy 1.9b9 application.
Hold down the COMMAND key and click on "Show..."
Page 2 of the report will show some buffer info, which will read all zeros
if the HD lacks the buffer.
Page 7 of the report shows caching parameters.
If page 7 isn't there then there's no buffer.
