It's OK as long as it is not forwarded outside tour network by the 
machine you connect to the internet with. If the ports (20 & 21 IIRC) 
are open from outside firewall them IMMEDIATELY. If you had OS X 10.2 
you could do this in the sharing control panel but if not use a utility 
like Brickwall or FireWalkX. FTP is NOT a secure protocol and is an 
invitation to crackers to get into your machine and your files.

Anyway - what happened to being able to use AppleShare to access an OS 
X machine? The instructions are on your site and they do work with 
10.1.5, I tried it with my Mac SE.
