Hello,
I have a Mac Classic II that has been working very well for the past year
or two as a simple word processing and e-mail machine when my iMac is
busy.

For the past couple of days, when I have turned it on in the mornings, I
have been getting the 'Chimes of Death'. I don't get a sad Mac face, but
when I turn it off and then on again subsequent times after that, I get
distorted vertical B&W bars.

I open the case to check whether everything is seated properly and to
remove/replace the memory to see whether the memory is at fault. When I
turn it back on, I eventually hear a loud popping noise and then the Mac
continues to work for the rest of the day as if nothing had happened
(although I do notice that the Mac seems to get noisier after being left
on for several hours).

Does anybody know what may be wrong with my Mac? Anything that I should
replace that might be causing the problem?

Thank you for your help,

Liam Hatton
