with respect to your se, word 5.1 works very well indeed - i use it on all
my old macs because it opens pretty well ANY file, isn't a pain in the arse
like some other word versions, and doesn't take up much room if you only use
the program and not all its extra bits, allows you to drag and drop text
even with system 6, and will run quite happily in 1 meg ram

have tried numerous word processors, but this still has the edge - also,
once a long file is open, it scrolls through it and reformats much faster
than things like macwrite, word perfect, clarisworks, write now, tex edit

there is nisus compact (free) which runs well and has interesting features,
but word 5.1 still kills it in terms of opening files, and being able to be
read by other computers

wow - never thought id be supporting micro$oft like that! i use word and
excel on the macs at work, not because its impossible to translate these
files when i get them from pc s etc - its just easier and saves time - i
know when i send the documents everyone else can read them - its a shame,
but i put it in the same basket as learning another language when you live
in a foreign country - its good that lots of people speak english in holland
for example, but if you want to communicate freely and quickly, its good to
learn dutch!

sorry for the long rave, must be a friday afternoon!

btw all of these other processors are available free on the internet..

have fun!
