That it takes a half hour is a sign of serious trouble. And the white stripes
 are nature's way of reminding you it's got a problem.

Ever try removing the logic board and reinserting the memory chips?

A Classic II logic board goes into a Classic very well. The excepton is
driling the hole for the microphone jack if you intend to use it.
