Dear List:

I recently retrieved my old Mac Plus from storage. The Plus has an external
drive on which System 7.1 is installed. I want to network my old Plus to my
PowerMac G4 466, which is my main computer to use.

A while back I purchased a used Asante EN/SC Base 10 T adapter for my Mac
Plus, since it cannot support built-in ethernet. I have all the appropriate
software to network the Plus to the G4, but I am having problems trying to
connect to the G4 from the Plus. On the G4 side, it simply doesn't recognise
the Plus at all.

When I briefly flirted with this type of configuration, I had the two
computers connected directly to each other via cross-over cable. I recall
that it did work. But now, whenever I have tried to log in to my G4 from the
Plus using the configuration detailed below, an error is automatically
generated on the Plus. The message states that there is something wrong with
AppleShare. At the end of this message it states that "...cannot be divided
by zero".

The way I have the configuration set up is as follows:

1. A 10 Base T ethernet hub.

2. Through the uplink port on this hub I have an ethernet cable running from
my ADSL modem.

3. An ethernet cable running from one of the other ports on the hub to my
G4.

4. Another ethernet cable running from one of the other ports on the hub to
the SCSI-Ethernet adapter for the Plus.

Also, with the SCSI-Ethernet adapter, where does the termination have to be
set? In addition to the adapter itself, there is only the external hard
drive attached.

Any help would be appreciated.

Roland :)
