Maybe the Classic needs version 4.2 to use the zip as startup drive, 
I don't know, but I am pretty sure it can use later versions of the 
iomega driver software to use the zip in general. The Plus can handle 
later versions of the driver software too. It just won't be able to 
boot from the zip drive with later versions.

BTW The internal hard disk and the floppy upgrade are not the only 
differences between the classic and the plus. The Classic also has a 
different rom chip, which just might enable it to boot up from zip 
disks formatted with later versions of the iomega driver.
