My experience tells me that if a computer has been in use or in quality, dry storage, wrap it in several layers of cling film before storing anywhere that is less than perfect (eg garage, storage locker). The cling film will help to protect the case and prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. If a computer has been kept in poor, damp storage, bring it in doors and let it adjust to the temperature and humidity over a few days. Don't try to use the computer before it has had some time to settle down. Ideally, dismantle and perform a visual inspection (at minimum) before applying power.
