On a balmy summer day in 1983 I sailed past the remains of the USS Arizona
while serving on board the Amphibious Assault Ship, USS Tarawa. I found the
occasion both exciting and solemn. Exciting, because six months overseas and
American port was a sight for sore eyes. Solemn, because there are over a
thousand young sailors still on board the doomed dreadnought. There is still
fuel seeping from the Arizona as it lies in silent slumber. It's as if the
ship is weeping for those who were lost.

For this auspicious occasion I offer my heartfelt thanks to all served.
