Okay. I bought one of those proferred Xceed schematics packages (for a
second time) on eBay (this time from seller "spooty-puppy" ...the previously
purchased set of schematics came with an external, supposedly working, Xceed
colour card, and was from a seller whose name I can't recall).
Connie (spooty-puppy) was also throwing in a "non-working gray-scale card"
as part of the sale of the schematics.
The card has arrived (amusingly enough, the schematics haven't, but she's
already place those in the post).
Hmm. I can see why she accurately described it as "non-working". It might be
a proto-type engineering example?
Characteristics:
1. It looks like the PDS connector was never soldered on.
2. It is missing a small square chip at U20
3. It is missing a large rectangular chip at U6
4. It is missing a long-ish rectangular chip at U12
5. It is missing what I presume is one of the four memory chips at U4
6. It is missing what I presume are capacitors at C2 and C30
7. There are two post-engineering wire runs on the top of the board
connecting a couple locations, which have both come loose on one end
a. one wire goes from a leg of U15 & terminates to some unknown point
near U8
b. one wire goes from a through-point just above C21 and goes who knows
where, although it's a bit long
8. There are SM blanks at U2, U7 & U8, but they don't appear to have ever
been soldered
9. It is missing what I presume are resistors at R1, R2 and R3
That's it for visible problems.
The board appears to be in otherwise excellent shape. It is 235-0369-010 REV
A (back of board, etched), 250-0369-010 REV A (top of board, silkscreen),
and it definitely has the gray-scale connectors. Near the MICRON Technology
logo silkscreen, it has the letters [ACD] -15-0 DC1291ET (side of board,
silkscreen).
Connie also sent me a whole card of 10 new SM chips in the original shipping
package, with the markings:
Micron USA
MAR 0398 A1N
609-0390372
F8A1867 F9207
...and taking one of these SM chips out of the packaging and laying it on
the blank at U6, the chip appears to "fit" correctly over the blank. I don't
know what this part does, or even if it's the correct part for any Xceed
board, but I will be happy to share parts with any lister in need of one.
And if it's a critical part ...it could be useful? Dunno ....
I've compared this board to a photograph on Gamma's site
<http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/micron_ebay/864/1245768864.html> which it
closely resembles (differences include some on-board silk screen lettering
...this board has far less, and it doesn't have the stickers above the PDS
slot that the photograph shows). The online picture of the Gamma board does
show parts at U2, U7 & U8. And though the definition isn't high enough, the
chip at U6 does appear to have the same "appearance" as the lettering on the
surface mount chips Connie included. The area "above" the gray-scale adapter
(to the left in the picture) is totally different though; the picture shows
some capacitors, a square SM chip, and rectangular one in the corner, what
this boad has what appears to be two clock oscillators (both Pletronics, one
@ 57.28320MHz, and the corner one at 30.240MHz).
It's probably a fool's quest, but since I have this one, I figure it's worth
a shot at repairing it. I welcome any public or private comments on the
feasibility, of course.
So. Can some kind soul (or several) send me (or point me toward) some
high-definition close-ups of their working board? And send me the numbers
(or any other relevant information) on the chips from the indicated
locations on your board for the missing parts on my board?
I will also need help with the harness, although I have the gray-scale CRT
adapter board (I've been picking up & hoarding various SE30 upgrade bits for
a long, long time now).
