>Upon formatting an external drive on my G3 <...> my Mac Plus wont startup with it, and it
The problem here is that the Mac Plus was VERY SLOW when it came to SCSI. On your G3, the SCSI bus can talk to the drive in "real time", i.e. 1:1 interleave. The Mac Plus uses a 3:1 interleave, which means that drives formatted in newer systems will not work on the Plus. You need to find a utility (I think Spirit Utilities has this option) to change the interleave of the drive. I can't remember if doing this requires a reformat. BTW, this also applies to the Mac SE and Mac II, which used a 2:1 interleave. Anything newer used 1:1 interleave. ---------------------------------------------- Alan O'Neil My Dual-Monitor Mac cost over $8,000 new!
