Good afternoon Mac Friends:
Thanks again for the guidance you gave me last night. I was up till 2:00
a.m. making back up disks and transferring everything to a Mac SE I was
recently given, (using both your good advice about the Hard Drive and the
"tape over disk hole" advice - success!!!).
I've got another question. The Mac always turned on and worked from the
external hard drive. The Mac SE does not. Although it has an internal drive,
I have to put the disk "Write Now" in the internal drive to make it work. I
tried copying "Write Now" onto the Hard Drive of the SE, but now it will not
shut down, (unless I simply turn off the switch).
Back to the Plus. When I click on the little apple icon in the upper left
hand corner of the screen, the menu reads:
"About the finder
"chooser
"control panel
"file find
"key caps"
When I click on "About the finder," a little screen pops up that says:
"The Macintosh Finder
"Finder: 6.0 Larry, John, Steve, Bruce
"System: 4.2 1987 Apple Computer, Inc.
"Total Memory: 2,560k
"Finder, 2,276k
"System 284k
Okay - now to the SE. When I click on the little apple icon - I get
"About the finder
"Calculator
When I click on "About the finder," I get,
"The Macintosh Finder
"Bruce Harris and Steve Capps
"1024k, version 5.3, Apple Computer, 1986
I'm guess this is the operating system that runs the computer I've read
about in both your posts and FAQ section. Is there a difference between the
SE and the Plus that enables one to start up from the Hard Drive but hinders
the other from starting up from the Hard Drive, (I've noticed they're
different versions).
Secondly, how do I access this file? Where does it live? Is there a way
to make a copy and transfer it to another drive?
Third, how do I find the "Chooser" and "Control Panel" on the SE. I can
find the little folder icon but cannot access it from there (it won't give it
to me). What do I need to do to find the "Chooser" and "Control Panel"?
Thanks again and looking forward to more "Ah-ha" experiences!
Pastor Glenn.
